Abstract
Chicken slaughterhouse UMKM waste causes ecosystem damage, environmental pollution, and public health problems. The application of appropriate liquid waste processing technology can minimize the negative impacts of waste. Electrolysis technology is a technology that uses electrical energy to decomposing organic compounds in liquid waste. Effective electrolysis technology for processing liquid waste from chicken slaughterhouses. The research aims to reduce Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) so that the values are below environmental quality standards. The research was conducted by decomposing organic compounds from liquid waste in a continuous electrolysis reactor. The results of the decomposition of organic compound in the continuous electrolysis reactor exceeded 80%, which can be seen from the decrease in BOD of 83.41%, COD of 85.96%, and TSS of 98.93%. The decomposition of organic compounds produced values below environmental quality standards, namely BOD 71.67 mg/L, COD 97.02 mg/L, and TSS 15 mg/L. The conclusion of the research results is that electrolysis technology can be used to process liquid waste from UMKM chicken slaughterhouses.
